Privacy Policy
Effective PLACEHOLDER_EFFECTIVE_DATE. Last updated PLACEHOLDER_EFFECTIVE_DATE.
This policy explains what JDL AutoSales (PLACEHOLDER_LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME, “we”, “us”) collects when you use jdl-autosales.com, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It covers this website only.
The short version
We collect what you type into one of our contact forms, and nothing else. We use it to answer you. We do not sell it, we do not share it with other companies for their own purposes, we do not put you on a mailing list, and we do not run analytics, advertising pixels, or any other tracking on this site. If you would like us to delete what you sent us, ask and we will.
The rest of this document says the same thing in the detail the law expects.
Information we collect
Everything we collect, you give us deliberately by submitting a form. There are three:
| Form | What it collects |
|---|---|
| Contact form | Your name, email address, phone number (optional), whether you are looking at new or used vehicles, the make and model or budget you describe, how you prefer to be contacted, and any message you write. |
| Email capture | Your email address, and which part of the page you submitted it from. |
| Vehicle enquiry | Your name, email address, phone number (optional), your message, and which vehicle you were looking at. |
Our forms include a hidden field used to catch automated spam. It is not shown to you, anything submitted in it is discarded, and it is not used to identify you.
We do not collect, and have no way to collect:
- Payment card numbers, bank details, Social Security numbers, or driver’s licence numbers. This website has no payment or financing function of any kind.
- Any of the categories of sensitive personal information defined by California law.
- Location data, contacts, biometric data, or anything from your device beyond what is described below.
Information collected automatically
Very little, and none of it for tracking. Like nearly all websites, our servers and our hosting provider record standard technical information when a page is requested, such as the IP address making the request, the time, and the page requested. These logs exist to keep the site running and secure, and are not used to build a profile of you or combined with anything you submit.
We use IP addresses for one further purpose: limiting repeated failed login attempts on our staff area. Those records are held in memory only, for ten minutes, and are never associated with a customer enquiry.
How we use your information
We use what you send us to:
- Reply to your question or enquiry.
- Help you find, evaluate, or buy a vehicle, which is the service you contacted us about.
- Keep a record of our conversation with you, so that if you get back in touch we know what was discussed.
- Detect and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse of the website itself.
- Comply with the law where we are required to.
We do not use your information for marketing.
If you contact us, you will hear back from us about that enquiry. We do not add you to a newsletter, a promotional list, or an automated campaign, and we do not send you unrelated offers. You do not need to unsubscribe from anything, because there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
How long we keep it
Enquiries sent through this website are not stored in a database. They arrive as an email in our inbox and that is the only copy we hold.
We keep that correspondence for 24 months after our last contact with you, then delete it. We keep it that long so that we can pick up where we left off if you come back to us, and so we can answer questions about a vehicle we helped you buy.
Records relating to a completed purchase may be kept for longer where tax, accounting, warranty, or other law requires it. Server logs are kept only briefly for security and troubleshooting.
You can ask us to delete your information sooner. See below.
How we protect it
The website is served entirely over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and enquiries are transmitted to us over that connection. Access to our inventory management area is password protected, limited to staff, and rate limited against repeated login attempts.
No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send us Social Security numbers, payment card details, or copies of identification documents through this website — we do not need them and have no facility to protect them.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights. We extend them to everyone who contacts us, regardless of which state you are in.
- To know what personal information we hold about you, where it came from, why we have it, and who we have disclosed it to.
- To access a copy of it.
- To correct anything inaccurate.
- To delete it.
- To opt out of sale or sharing, and of profiling or targeted advertising. We do not do any of these, so there is nothing to opt out of, but the right stands.
- To limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect any.
- Not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We will not refuse to work with you, charge you differently, or give you a worse service because you asked.
These rights are set out for California residents in the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, and in comparable terms under the consumer privacy laws of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah.
California residents may also request, once a year, details of any personal information disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes under California Civil Code section 1798.83. We make no such disclosures.
How to exercise your rights
Email or call us using the details at the end of this policy and tell us what you would like. There is no form to fill in.
We will confirm we have received your request within ten days and respond within forty-five days. If we need longer we will tell you why, and may take up to a further forty-five days. There is no charge.
We will need to be reasonably confident you are who you say you are before we act, which normally means replying from the email address you originally contacted us from. An authorised agent may make a request on your behalf with your written permission.
If you are unhappy with how we handled your request, you can appeal by replying to us and saying so, and in some states you may also complain to your state Attorney General.
Children
This website is intended for adults buying vehicles and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
This site may link to websites we do not control, such as manufacturer or review sites. This policy does not apply to them, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. If the change is significant — for example if we ever began sharing enquiries with third parties — we will say so prominently rather than quietly amending the text.
